Obituary of Russ C. Dantzler

LEXINGTON - Funeral service for Russ C Dantzler, 68, of Lexington will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with private burial to follow. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the funeral home. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. Mr. Dantzler passed away from ALS complications on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at his lakeside home, in the company of his loving wife. He was born on September 23, 1946 in Orangeburg to Muriel Young Dantzler and the late Marvin Dantzler. Mr. Dantzler graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked as a substation design engineer for seven years with SCE&G before joining Mid-Carolina Electric Coop, where he worked for 36 years , ultimately retiring as the VP of Engineering and Operations. Russ was a member of many organizations relating to work and otherwise, including the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (Life Member, Insulated Conductor committee, Rural Electric Power committee, Standards Association, Industry Applications Society), National Rural Electric Cooperative (Research Network, Transmission and Distribution committee, ACRE), South Carolina Electric Cooperative (Engineers' Association, Material Standards committee, ECHO), University of South Carolina (Alumni Association, Educational Foundation, Gamecock Club), AARP, SC Golf Association, and the Lexington Chamber of Commerce. He received numerous awards and commendations during his tenure with these organizations. During his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, traveling to all 50 states and several foreign countries, and participating in a variety of lake and other outdoor activities. He was a man who truly lived life to the fullest. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Bonnie Dantzler; daughter, Lyndall Dantzler; son, Rusty Dantzler and his wife Jessica; siblings, Mark Dantzler, Ramona Lanier and her husband Jack, and Patricia Richardson and her husband Pat, along with countless additional family and friends.
