Obituary of Irma Ree Coombs

Funeral services for Irma Ree Coombs, of Eastover, will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, SC, 29201, on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 1 PM, with the Reverend Craig Wilkes and Reverend David Lauten officiating. The family will greet friends from 2 PM - 3 PM following the service. Burial will follow at 3:30 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, with the Reverend Darrell Wood assisting the family. Mrs. Coombs passed away on February 23, 2015. Born in Kinston, NC, she was the daughter of the late Horace Taylor and Dehlia Louise (Blizzard) Taylor. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Columbia. Irma loved her church and her family. She was a very hard worker with a nurturing spirit. Irma enjoyed working in her yard and could make anything grow. She liked to trim her hedges, plant trees in her yard, and tend to her flowers. Irma was a great cook. She had a recipe for rice that was adopted by many. Irma also made a potato salad that was often requested at family and church gatherings. She was a great singer and a fantastic whistler. Irma would use her talents in decorating throughout the year but was always eager to decorate both home and church at Christmas. Irma was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She cherished all the times she was together with family. She especially looked forward to Christmas and an opportunity to spoil her grandchildren. Surviving are a son; Christopher Scott Coombs and wife Donna (Wood) Coombs of Eastover SC, a daughter; Ree Lynn Coombs of Eastover SC, grandchildren; Clayton Coombs, of Eastover, SC, and Stephanie Coombs of Eastover, SC, brothers; Horace E. Taylor and family of VA and Don Taylor and family of NC. She is also survived by a nephew George L. Taylor and his family in NC, and a niece; Katie Milligan and her family of MD. Irma was predeceased by her oldest brother; George Taylor. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for Susan Oliver of Eastover, SC. She is a family friend that visited and cared for Mrs. Coombs every day until her passing. In addition to being her selfless caregiver, Susan became a close personal friend to Irma. A special thank you is also extended to Amedisys Home Health and Hospice Care for the kind and professional care given to Irma.
