Obituary of Jewell Lown Shull

Lexington - Jewell Lown Shull, 84, wife of the late Norman Lybrand Shull, passed away on March 9, 2015. Born in West Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Ardis Lawrence and Barbara Dessie (Corley) Lown. Mrs. Shull worked at the S.C. Employment Security Commission for 12 years. She and Norman shared a love of gardening, canning, and preserving. Their abundant crops were shared with family and friends. A fifth generation life-long member of St. David Lutheran Church, she was a former member of the choir, handbell choir, tone chimes and Social Ministry Committee. She enjoyed volunteering at LICS, Washington Street Soup Kitchen and Lexington Medical Center. Surviving are her children: Allan Shull of Lexington, Barbara Shull of Georgetown, and Kristi Shull of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Rachel Hollowell of Snohomish, WA and Thomas Hollowell of Meriden, CT. She is also survived by her sister, Sybil Quattlebaum; brother Leon Lown; brothers and sisters-in-law Raymond and Virginia Lown, Ervin and Mary Lown; brother-in-law Wyman Shull; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Marjorie Shull; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Emily Lown; sisters and brothers-in-law Lorene and R.W. Sox, Velda and Alton Livingston; brother and sister-in-law Harold and Margie Lown; brother-in-law Robert Quattlebaum; sisters-in-law Ruby Lown and Virginia Shull; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Horace and Bernice Corley. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 3P.M. at St. David Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. James Laurence will officiate. Family visitation will begin at 2 o'clock in the Commons Area of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. David Lutheran Church, 132 St. David Church Rd., West Columbia, SC 29169. The family would like to thank the staff at NHC Lexington for their compassionate care of our mother.
