Obituary of Recia T. McCall

COLUMBIA-Recia Tillman McCall peacefully departed this earthly life on the eve of Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC. She was born on December 1, 1920 in Kershaw County to the late Sherman and Pauline (Nelson) Tillman. She was affectionately called "Sista" by her family and friends. Sista was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Ben F. McCall. She loved to share the story of how she married the love of her life on July 12, 1943. They were blessed to celebrate 66 years of love and devotion. Together they raised a special nephew, the late James D. "Tubby" Lakin, Jr., in their home. She was the matriarch of her family and looked forward to celebrating her birthdays and spending the holidays with them. Recia nurtured loved ones with a deep and profound love. Mother Recia McCall was not a tall woman ins stature, but was a giant in character. She was a woman of few words, but when spoken, those words rang with wisdom, echoing ears of experience and endurance. Her grace lingers and her legacy of courage and steadfastness will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those who love and cherished her the most. Sista accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined the Church of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ located at 1632 Germany Street in Columbia, SC. As the eldest member and one of the devoted Mothers of the church, she faithfully and actively served on the Pastor's Aide Ministry, Usher's Ministry and choir. Sista was predeceased in death by two sister' Judy, Bell Lakin, and Nora T. Hayes; five brothers; Wyatt, Sherman Jr., David, English, and Blake Tillman, Sr. She loved her siblings and was a caregiver. She did not mind taking charge of a situation and holding on to the strong ties that bind them together. Surviving to cherish the loving memories and maintain the legacy include a special niece, Lue (Mario) Goodson, two sister-in-laws; Alma Tillman and Thelma Tillman, all of Columbia, SC, and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia SC, 29209 on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 6 PM - 8 PM Funeral services will be at The Church of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, 1632 Germany Street, Columbia, SC 29204 on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 12 PM with the Elder Eric Rowson officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia SC, 29209 following the service. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park will be assisting the family.
