Obituary of Edward Dodd Kimpton

Edward Dodd Kimpton, age 50, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away March 22, 2015 at Palmetto Health Richland Columbia , South Carolina . He was born on August 13, 1964 in Ft Ord, California to LLoyd and Margaret Dodd Kimpton. Edward was a proud United States Air Force Veteran. He committed over 20 years of service to his country, and achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant. He garnered many awards and decorations thru his career with many of those for service to his community. In his younger years, he was an athlete. He played many competitive sports including football, basketball and bowling. Edward enjoyed the simple things in life. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, all things sports related, comic books, travelling the world with his family, and catching movies during his free time. He had a talent for recalling movie quotes and loved various kinds of music but especially loved rock and blues. Edward was the epitome of the unconditional giver. He always wanted you to have the best, even at his own expense. He was selfless to a fault. Edward was a very reliable and hard worker. It was rare for him to miss a day at his job. Edward most loved to be with his family. He met the love of his life, Sunok when he was stationed in Korea. They shared a strong and vibrant marriage full of love, laughter and support for one another. He was a great husband, and a kind and nurturing father to his children. He always enjoyed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and his wife's birthday. He loved the times the family was together, whether it be camping or skiing, or even as he cooked his special steaks. He made things worthwhile and fun. He tried to prove every day how much he loved his wife and children. Edward had a child like heart full of grace, forgiveness, caring and compassion. He was genuine and sincere. Edward loved and cared about you, it came from his heart. His will be dearly missed by his family, friends and those he met while traveling the world during his military career. Edward is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Sunok Kimpton of Columbia, SC; daughter, Chiun Kimpton of Columbia, SC; sons, Songhwa Kimpton (Jacqueline) of Midwest City, OK, LLoyd Kimpton of Columbia, SC and Edward Kimpton Jr. of Columbia, SC. He is also survived by his mother, Margaret Dodd Kimpton of Duncan OK; and a sister, Sherry Peacock (John) of Duncan OK. He was preceded in death by his father; LLoyd Kimpton. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 on Thursday March 26,2015 from 6:00PM until 7:00PM . Funeral services will be held at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park Chapel following the visitation with the Reverend David Lee officiating. Interment will be at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Pervical Road, Columbia, SC, 29229 with full military honors.
