Obituary of Perry Lee Colvin

Perry Lee Colvin Sr., 85, of Cayce passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the VA Hospital in Columbia, SC. Born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania; he enlisted in the U.S. Army at an early age and served in Korea and Vietnam. He was selected as the "Soldier of the Year" during his tour in Greenland. After his retirement, he and his family opened a Dairy Queen in West Columbia. Following many successful years, he sold the business and returned to school to further his education. Here he gained interest in the carpentry and electrical field and embarked on another career that lasted many years. He ended his working career with the United States Postal Service. Perry was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved his time in his large garden. His pleasure was sharing the produce of garden with friends and family. He is survived by Antonette, his wife, of over 60 years, his four children, Dr. Perry Lee Colvin, Jr. (Nancy) of Baltimore, MD, Louise M. Brooks (James), of Lexington, SC, Patricia A. Hicks (James) of Marietta, GA, and Antonette S. Hendrix (Robert) of Lexington, SC; ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A service will be held Wednesday, April 1st, at 10 a.m. St. Peter's Catholic Church on Assembly Street Columbia, SC, with viewing from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Father Gary Linsky will officiate. A 12 o'clock graveside service will follow at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229. Special heartfelt thanks to the staff at the VA Hospital Community Center for the excellent care they provided Perry during his final years. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family.
