Obituary of Johnny Sue Hakim

Johnny Sue Hakim, 70, of West Columbia, South Carolina passed away April 2, 2015 peacefully. She was born on August 15, 1944 in Mullins, South Carolina to the late J Blease and Sue (Stone) Merchant. Johnny was a genuine, fun loving and honest lady who always had a smile on her face even in trying times. When Johnny was your friend, you had a true and lasting friend. She also was an excellent cook. Her kibbeh and rum cake were definite family favorites. Johnny was confident and adventuresome. She enjoyed the outdoors and liked hiking, camping and kayaking with the Owl's group. Johnny also enjoyed spending her Friday nights with good friends and participated in the Cooper River Walk whenever possible. She was very strong in her Christian Beliefs and loved her family. She was a great mom and loved her family. Her bold and kind spirit will be greatly missed. Johnny is survived by her sisters; Joyce Porth (Gene) of Lexington, SC and Mary Merchant of West Columbia, SC, daughter; Lara Castleberry of West Columbia, SC, sons; George Hakim (April) of Hopkins, SC, Rumsey Hakim of St. Mathews, SC, grandchildren; Samantha Hakim, Alia Hakim, Cora Lynn Hakim, Gerald "John" Ford, Tiffany Ford, Kyzer William Blease Ford and 6 great grandchildren. Johnny was predeceased by her brother; James Merchant. A celebration of the life for Johnny will be April 25, 2015 from 10:00 to 3:00 at 1740 Weston Rd., Hopkins, SC 29061.
