Obituary of Norman Albert Whitfield

Norman Albert Whitfield, 87, of Sandy Run passed away on April 2, 2015 at Lexington Medical Center. He was born on January 22, 1928 in Chapel Hill, NC to the late John F. and Swannee Hobby Whitfield. Mr. Whitfield retired from textiles after 45 years of service and was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church in Sandy Run, SC. Mr. Whitfield is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Doris Meacham Whitfield; three children, Ed Whitfield (Diane) of Chapel Hill, NC, Norman Whitfield (Lucy) of Cary, NC and Hilda Whitfield Wynn of Sandy Run; four grandchildren, Eddie Whitfield (Cherelle) of Silk Hope, NC, Auburn Whitfield Glenn (John) of Wake Forest,NC, Brian Whitfield (Sarah) of Sugar Mountain, NC and Helen Whitfield Bass (Jamey) of Cary, NC; eight great grandchildren, Ashley Montrose Atkinson (Marshall), Tyler Montrose, Carter, Cooper and Hudson Bass, Lucy Clay Whitfield, Haley and Abbie Glenn; one great-great grandchild, Brantley Atkinson. Funeral services will be held at 3PM Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Beulah United Methodist Church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2PM until 2:45PM prior to the service at the church. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beulah United Methodist Church building fund, 1577 Old Sate Road, Sandy Run (Gaston) SC 29053 or one's choice.
