Obituary of Deborah Gail Prescott Gold

COLUMBIA-Deborah Gail Prescott Gold, 64, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2015, after a long battle with her health. She was born on September 14, 1950, in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late David Lee Prescott and Gracie Juanita Spires. Ms. Gold retired after many faithful years of service as a school teacher and then guidance counselor, primarily at Hand and Crayton Middle Schools. She loved helping children and families overcome obstacles to enhance learning and improve the quality of their lives. Ms. Gold also loved bringing joy to children as "Clara the Clown" through her entertainment business, doing birthday parties and Christian magic shows at churches for many years. Her grandchildren, W. David and Ella Grace, stole her heart from the moment they were born, and she was smitten from then on. Ms. Gold was known for her love for the Lord, her "huge heart" and love for people, her capacity for giving and her enthusiasm for education. She will be deeply loved forever and greatly missed by all who knew her. Ms. Gold is survived by her daughters, Donna Marie Gold of San Diego, California, and Felicia Gold Miller (Bill) of Columbia and their children W. David and Ella Grace Miller; brother Wayne Prescott (Alice) of Knightdale, North Carolina; nephew David Lee Prescott (Angela) of Knightdale, North Carolina, with great nieces Skylar and Kally and great nephew Will; niece Mary Alice Brader (Aaron) of Clayton, North Carolina; and unofficially adopted son Donnie Jones (Linda). The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, located at 845 Leesburg Road in Columbia. The funeral will be at 3 pm on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 also at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, followed by a brief committal service at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
