Obituary of Stephen Smith Hamilton

Funeral service for Stephen "Steve" Smith Hamilton, Jr., 83, will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Mr. Hamilton passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015. He was born on September 30, 1931 in Fort Benning, Georgia to the late Col. Stephen Smith and Louise Kelly Frizell Hamilton. Having grown up in a military family Steve lived in many states as well as Panama and Germany. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. He was formerly married to the late Frances Harley Hamilton until her death in 2009. They had two wonderful children, Stephen, III and Janet. He was a longtime member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school for over 40 years. Steve is survived by his wife Linda S. Hamilton; son, Stephen Smith Hamilton, III (Beverly) and daughter, Janet Hamilton DeBruhl (David). Also surviving are six grandchildren, Kaleigh E. Stevens, Stephen S. Hamilton IV, Darby L. DeBruhl, Kelly J. Hamilton, Jordan H. DeBruhl and Jesse S. DeBruhl; one great grandson, Cerin F. Orellana. In addition to his parents and his former wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Hamilton Lyles. Memorials may be made to Mt.
