Obituary of Marie Anderton McCain

Marie Anderton McCain, 79, of Columbia, entered into rest Sunday, May 17, 2015 surrounded by her family. Born April 28, 1936 in New York, NY she was a daughter of the late Edward Sr., and Loretta (Robinson) Anderton. A 1956 graduate from Booker T. Washington High School, Mrs. McCain was a cosmetologist for about 14 years and was a dedicated employee of the Lexington/Richland School District 5 for 28 years. She had served as cafeteria manager for 20 years and worked at Irmo High School, Seven Oaks Elementary, Campus I/Irmo Middle School and retired from Harbison West Elementary. During her retirement, Mrs. McCain enjoyed bowling and traveling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Tucker; as well as a brother, Edward Anderton, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Freddie McCain; son, Ronald L. Wright (Phyllis); daughter, Theresa Wright Pacheco (Benjamin); son, James Tucker, Jr. (Victoria); siblings, Loretta Sherman, Joan Hunter, Reponzel Pender, Gladys McHenry (James), Gloria Skipwith (George) and Lillie Mae Robinson (Robert); six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Central Baptist Church, 3625 Clement Road, Columbia, SC 29203, on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Ricky Ezell officiating. Entombment will immediately follow in the Mausoleum at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
