Obituary of Ernest Bruce Caughman

Ernest Bruce Caughman, 86, of Hopkins, South Carolina passed away peacefully on May 23, 2015. He was born on September 18, 1928 in Lykesland, South Carolina to the late Ernest B. and Mary Elizabeth (Boatwright) Caughman. He was a graduate of Lower Richland High School and attended the University of South Carolina. Bruce was a proud military veteran of the United States Navy and Air Force. He retired from the VA Dorn Medical Center after 35 years. Bruce was a very active member of Beulah Baptist Church for many years until his health declined. He was a deacon, Training Union teacher, usher, and served on various committees in the church. Bruce also spent many years playing on the church softball team. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and camper. Spending time with his family is one of the things he loved most. He enjoyed and always looked forward to his annual camping trip with his male family members and friends at the Santee Swamp. Bruce was a Godly husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed. Bruce is survived by his wife; Ruby Yvonne Caughman; children, David Bruce Caughman (Susan) of Columbia, SC, Jenny Caughman Bellinger (John) of Columbia, SC, and Joyce Parris Bagwell (Gene) of Spartanburg, SC.; Grandchildren, Christopher Caughman (Mary Benton), Lauren Grice (David), Michael Bellinger (Deven), Joshua Caughman (Emily), Brian Bellinger, Craig Kennedy, Brandon Kennedy (Hayley); great grandchildren, Gram Caughman, Mary Denley Caughman, Brooklyn Grice, McKinsey Grice, Kassidy Kennedy, Kaitlin Kennedy, John Brandon Kennedy, and Evan Kennedy. He is also survived by his sisters, Willie Mae Tanner, Reba Davant, Kitty Henderson; and a brother, John Caughman. Bruce also left behind many nieces, nephews and cousins that will miss him. Bruce was preceded in death by a wife, Billie Bundrick Caughman; and a sister, Betty Jean McCary. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park 845 Leesburg Road, on Monday, May 25, 2015 from 6 PM until 8 PM. Funeral services will be at Beulah Baptist Church, 9487 Garners Ferry Road, Hopkins, SC 29061 on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 10 A.M. with Reverend Cameron DeBrew and Reverend Ken Addison officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park following the service. Memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church Building Fund, 9487 Garners Ferry Road, Hopkins, SC 29061.
