Obituary of Algie Alonzo Watts

Chief Petty Officer Algie Alonzo Watts, 90, of Hopkins, passed away May 30, 2015 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. He was born on December 12, 1924 in Hopkins, SC to the late John Alexander Watts and Nordi Freeman Roberts Watts. He retired from the United States Navy after 21 years of service. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Ida Mae Wilkinson Watts. He was also predeceased by his brothers Bud Roberts, Edmond Watts, and sisters Dot Watts Martin, Dessie Roberts Derrick and Minnie Roberts Watts. He is survived by his three children Algie Alonzo Watts, Jr "Billy" (Patricia), Sandra Watts Finan (Paul) and Karen Watts Anderson (Johnny). His seven grandchildren Ronald Watts, Celeste Carnaggio (Gary), Dawn Welch, Beth Livingston, Ray Finan (Lauren), Richard Finan (Amber) and Crystal Bell (Damon). His fourteen great grandchildren Trevor Faircloth, Cody Welch, Jadyn Bell, Kayla Welch, Harleigh Livingston, Ashley Welch, Marie Watts, Alexander Watts, Brayden Finan, Gavin Finan, Chance Carnaggio, Austin Finan, Logan Finan and Hailey Finan. Also, three sisters Ruth Derrick, Grace Brown and Lois Hinds. During his 21 years of service he served on the USS Herzog DE178, USS Burleigh APA95, USS Cadmus AR14 and the USS Tidewater AD31. In 1969 he finally retired at the US Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. After he retired he became an active member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Tri State Rebels and Sunny Travelers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. There will be a funeral service on Wednesday June 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd., Columbia, SC. Visitation will be held on June 2, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
