Obituary of Edith Lee Bolen

Edith Lee Cook Smith Bolen, 93, of Columbia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Agape Assisted Living. She was born on January 26, 1922 in Florence, South Carolina to the late Albert Norman and Lillian Commander Cook. Edith was very quiet and shy but loved being around people. She was industrious and very strong willed. Edith loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was generous and kind. There was always room for more feet under her dinner table. Edith enjoyed crocheting and won many awards. She liked to travel and did so extensively with her second husband. Edith was an amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always looked forward to summer vacations at the beach and loved the times when the family could all be together. Edith is survived by a daughter, Dot Long (Dennis); three sons, Albert Smith (Lorene), Johnny Smith (Jeanne) and Tommy Smith; and eleven grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Edith was predeceased by two sons, Boyd and Jim Smith and her husband's Ernest Boyd Smith, Sr. and Billie W. Bolen. Special thanks to Dr. Frampton Henderson and to her caregivers, Annie Jones and Jessica Baker for their love and kindness during her illness. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2015 at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington.
