Obituary of Lawrence Disque Walker

Lawrence Disque Walker, 73, of West Columbia, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 15, 2015. He was born in Gadsden, Alabama to the late William and Lillie Freeman Walker. Disque graduated from BC High School. He moved to SC in 1963 and made it his home. He was an active member and was a Deacon for many years at Broadacres Baptist Church. Disque felt the Lord lead him to Broadacres and he was blessed with a wonderful Christian family through the years. Disque was a member of Sinclair Masonic Lodge #154, Scottish Rite and Jamil Temple. He loved spending time with his family and traveling. He touched many lives and was a true servant of the Lord. Disque owned L.D. Walker Transmissions with his son. They were blessed with a loyal and hardworking staff. Contributions in his memory may be donated to the Broadacres Baptist Church Building Fund, 2350 Taylor Road, Cayce, SC 29033 or the National Kidney Foundation of SC, 508 Hampton St., Ste. 200, Columbia, SC 29201. Both were very close to his heart. The family would like to thank Kelly Winters and his staff at Providence Hospital, the 7th floor nursing staff at LMC and the staff at Agape Hospice House for the exemplary care provided. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Kaytera "Kay" Walker; son, Steve of Chapin; daughters, Sheila and her husband Robert Hoffman of Lexington and Sandra and her husband Scott Swindle of Lexington; siblings, Cyrus Rhett Walker and Diane Kyzer. He also leaves his loving grandchildren, Walker, Carlin and Graceson Hoffman of Lexington, Lance, Jennings and Blake Walker of West Columbia, Lillie and Faith Swindle of Lexington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and two sister-in-laws, Rita and her husband Ivan Brantham of GA and Terri Estes of GA. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gene, Myran, Kenneth and Gary Walker; his sisters, Mary Richardson and Louise Judson; and his sister-in-law, Marcia LeCroy. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Broadacres Baptist Church of Cayce on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m..
