Obituary of Emilie Ann Lowman Carter

Emilie Ann Lowman Carter was born to Roland and Annie Holman Lowman on October 7, 1926, on Long View Plantation in Calhoun County. Later the family moved to St. Matthews. Emilie graduated from St. Matthews High School and went on to the University of South Carolina where she graduated with an A.B. degree in Elementary Education. She returned to St. Matthews to teach second grade and she knew the parents of nearly all of her young class and she loved them. When Emilie returned to USC to work on her Master's degree, she met her husband, Harry Cary Carter, through his sister in her French class. After they were married on June 19, 1948, the couple settled in a home in Columbia. Several years later, on Aug. 12, 1956, their daughter Karie Ann came into their lives. They named her after the middle names of both her parents. Emilie was predeceased by her father, mother, husband, and sister. A Memorial Service for Emilie will be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, July 1, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3909 Forest Drive, Columbia, SC. Visitation will take place at Good Shepherd one hour prior to the service. A private interment will be in West End Cemetery at a later time in St. Matthews. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is handling the arrangements.
