Obituary of Charles L. McCall

Charles "Charlie" L. McCall, 95 passed away July 2, 2015 at Still Hopes Episcopal Home in West Columbia, South Carolina surrounded by most of his family. He was born on December 15, 1919 in, St. Matthews SC to the late Charles Ligon and Lilly Walsh McCall. Charlie was a hard worker and owner of Capital Supply of Columbia INC since 1956. He was a proud US Army Veteran. Charlie fought in the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach then while serving in the 58th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, he was one of the brave men who fought during the Battle of the Bulge in the European Theater during WW II. Charlie was awarded several medals and awards for his honorable service. After the war in 1946, he completed his business degree from The University of South Carolina. He was an avid supporter of the Gamecocks and attended all the home games for as long as he was able. He was a very generous man. Charlie's philanthropic nature led him to give not only of his time but his resources to help those in need. He was a very dedicated family man. Charlie enjoyed Christmas, Thanksgiving and any opportunity to gather the family together. Charles is survived by his sister, Sara McCall Goza of St. Matthews SC; step sons, O'Neal McKissick (Merlene) of Cayce SC and Burnette McKissick (Jennifer) of Gadsden SC; grandchildren, Richard C. McKissick (Shari), Tammy Cashdollar (Glenn), Drew McKissick and Shane McKissick; great grandchildren, Richie McKissick, Rachael McKissick, Mason Branham and Cam Branham. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews. Additionally Charlie leaves behind a very special friend, Ethel Vogel. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Margie T. McCall; a sister, Juanita McCall Inabinet; and a brother, Ozzie McCall. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Atria at Forest Lakes and more recently Still Hopes Episcopal Home for the excellent care they have provided for Charlie. A very special thank you to Margie Whitehead for the wonderful care, kindness and attention she gave to him. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. on Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 6 PM until 8 PM. Funeral services will be in the Chapel of the funeral home on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 11 AM. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park following the service. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl. New York, N.Y. 10001 or at http://www.alzfdn.org.
