Obituary of Willie Lucille Westmoreland Sanders

Lucille "Momma Cile" Sanders, 93, widow of Medford C Sanders passed away Tuesday July 14, 2015. They were married for 35 years. Born on June 22, 1922, in Maysville Georgia she was the eldest of eight children of the late Robert Daniel and Lena Mae Freeman Westmoreland. Lucille worked at many Howard Johnson's across the United States and Tapp's lunch room in downtown Columbia SC. She was a former member of the New Brookland Chapter OES. She Enjoyed ballroom dancing and bowling and Lucille bowled on a Thursday night bowling league at Major Lanes for many years. Team members were Mickey Addy, Shirley Wessinger and Melanie Weidel. She was a Member of the Columbia Women's bowling Hall of Fame and served on the Columbia Local Bowling Board. Survivors include daughters, Donna LeGrand Gilbert (Dave) and Cynthia Greer Anthony (Frank); granddaughters, Tina (Paul) Thompson, Annette Greer, Jennifer LeGrand and Michelle Greer; grandsons, Kenny (MaryAnn) Hartman Jr., Tim Greer and Charles (Shannon) Miller; great grandchildren, Shelby and Amanda Thompson, Chase Hartman, Alannah (Rico) Underwood, Alin Kabar, Joseph Greer, Kevin (Melanie) Miller and Todd Miller; great-great grandchildren, Rico and Zion Underwood, Brody Miller, Jamilyn Miller and Camryn Miller; brother, Floyd (Linda) Westmoreland; son-in-law, Kenneth D Hartman; brother-in-laws, Brian Grubbs and Kenneth Boswell; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Medford Sanders, she was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn Hartman; brother, Clarence Westmoreland; sisters, Helen Grubbs, Jeanette Harris and Linda Boswell. Lucy lived life to the fullest extent possible, being around people and making them laugh giving her joy. Lucy was a loving and caring mother - adored her grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. Mom will surely be missed by all. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the RN's and CNA's at Agape Hospice Care on Stoneridge Drive for the loving care they provided to Mom during her short stay. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2015 in Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Agape Hospice, 1053 Center Street, West Columbia, SC 29169, Eastern Star of Cayce, Women's Bowling Hall of Fame, or to the charity or your choice.
