Obituary of John A Adkins

John A. Adkins, Jr., 66, of Lexington, SC passed away July 24, 2015 at Lexington Medical Center. He was born on July 2, to Ruby Jeffcoat Adkins, and the late John A. Adkins, Sr. John was a kind and gentle soul. An excellent family man, he was a great Husband, Father Brother and Uncle. John was also known as the most amazingly awesome Pop. John enjoyed cooking. He specialized in grits and eggs. They were a family favorite. John served over three decades with the SCDOT where he was a very talented mechanic, teacher and supervisor. When he was able, he would restore cars of his own. John most loved the time he was able to spend with the family. During Christmas, Thanksgiving and almost every Sunday, he coveted the times they could share and love. He will be truly missed by those who loved him. John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Vivian Sturkie Adkins; sons, John A. Adkins, III of Lexington and Karl Jarett Adkins (Christal) of Lexington; grandchildren, Steven Bailey Cheek, Alyson Karla Adkins and Sarah Elizabeth Adkins. John is also survived by his mother, Ruby J. Adkins of West Columbia; sisters, Karen Clark (James D) of Cayce and Deirdre Chavis (Russell) of Swansea; and a brother, Rex Adkins of West Columbia. He also leaves behind many nephews, nieces and cousins that will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father John A. Adkins, Sr. The family will receive friends at Crossroads World Outreach Center, 2606 Emanuel Church Road, West Columbia, SC 29170 on Sunday, July 26, 2015 from 5 PM until 8 PM. Funeral services will be at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 on Monday at 10 AM with Pastor Tim Hodge officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park following the service. Memorials may be made to the Crossroads World Outreach Center to the Outreach Ministry, 2606 Emanuel Church Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family.
