Obituary of Paul Samuel Player

Paul Samuel Player, 89, of Cayce, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015. He would have celebrated his 90th birthday on July 30th. He was the son of the late Furman B. and Janie Morrison Player. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia for over 40 years, where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School, and was a current member of First Baptist Church of West Columbia. Paul loved spending time with his family, working outside in his yard, and woodworking in "Paw Paw's Workshop." He handcrafted many unique pieces for his family that will be enjoyed for many years to come. He served in the US Army, during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and retired from a career at Thermal Engineering in 1990. After his retirement, he worked with the South Carolina Commission for the Blind. Mr. Player is survived by Jean, his wife of 63 years; his daughters, Paula (Charlie) Taylor, Phyllis (Harry) Langley, and Pamela Player; grandchildren, Chuck and Emily Taylor, Phillip Langley and Garrison and Samantha Crews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday July 28, 2015 at First Baptist Church of West Columbia. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the staff at Lexington Medical Center, Brookdale Senior Living of Lexington, and Lighthouse Hospice for their compassion, care, and support over the last six months. The family would also like to express their gratitude to the staff at Hearts and Hands of Care Inc, especially his friend Jada Bradford, for their love, care and compassion over the past 3 years.
