Obituary of Margaret Bultman Ridgeway

Margaret Bultman Ridgeway died on August 9, 2015 at Heartland of Columbia after a brief illness. She was born on June 8, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania just 3 minutes after her identical twin sister. Margaret was the daughter of the late William Burgess and Mollie Lambert Bultman. Margaret's family moved back to Columbia from Charlotte, North Carolina the summer before her senior year in high school. She was a proud graduate of Dreher High School. Margaret worked for many years at Providence Hospital in Medical Records then later worked for the South Carolina Senate and retired as the Senate Bookkeeper. After her retirement from the Senate, Margaret worked at her brother-in-law's business, Garner's Ferry Driving Range where she "held down the fort and bossed everyone around". After her retirement from the driving range, Margaret moved to the Forest Pines Retirement Community. At Forest Pines, Margaret could be found holding court every day at the same lunch table. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert B. Bultman and Wilhelm N. Bultman; and nephew, Robert C. Elliott. She is survived by her daughter, Anna-Marie Ridgeway Plyler (Mac); granddaughter, Meredith Plyler of Columbia and her identical twin sister, Gertrude Bultman Elliott (Tom) of Eastover. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be given to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Roof Fund, 3909 Forest Drive, Columbia, SC 29204. Graveside services will be conducted at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 10 AM with the Reverend Paul Wollner officiating. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 6 PM until 8 PM. Margaret's daughter would like to thank the managers and staff at Forest Pines for their care and friendship and also special gratitude to Heartland of Columbia especially Tammie, India, Amanda, Haven and Melissa for the compassionate and tender care they gave to her Mother. Agape Hospice was also a great comfort to Mother and me.
