Obituary of Danny L. Henderson

LEXINGTON-In the end, his heart was literally too big. Danny L. Henderson, Sr. passed away Saturday night doing two of the things he loved most: Working on damaged mail at the US Postal Service, and listening to Todd Ellis call the Gamecock football game. To know Danny was to know laughter, and to know family, and to know love. Always ready with a bright, warm grin and a silly joke, he never met a stranger, and brought a welcomed air of quiet humility into everything he did. Danny was born on September 21, 1944 in Gaffney, South Carolina to his late parents, James D. and Frances Rosadell Henderson. He served as an airman in the United States Navy after high school. After medical retirement from the Navy, he went on to run his own business in Columbia SC, Aace Radiator and Garage, before moving on to the United States Postal Service, where he spent 17 busy years right up until Saturday. Danny loved to work and stay busy, and was an active member of the National Postal Mail Handlers Union, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and of course, was an avid South Carolina Gamecocks fan. Danny has a whole crowd of people now missing his kind spirit, including (but by no means limited to): His son, Danny L. Henderson, Jr.; daughter, Diana Henderson (Rob Webster); granddaughter, Laurel Webster; sister, Nadine Mount (Wilbur); brothers, Ronny Henderson, and Wayne Henderson (Kathy); countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends too numerous to count. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jimmy and Ralph. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Leesburg Road. The family humbly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Also, please take a moment to tell those you love just how much they mean to you, and bring a smile in Danny's honor.
