Obituary of James Levern Whaley

West Columbia - A funeral service for James Levern Whaley will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 17, 2015 in the Mausoleum Chapel at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170, with entombment to follow. Chaplain Ava Harris will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service in the mausoleum chapel. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family. Mr. Whaley passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at his residence. Born in Union, he was a son of the late James Levern and Attie Price Whaley. He was a proud US Navy veteran and was an avid NASCAR fan. He was the owner and operator of Whaley's Equipment in West Columbia. He loved his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Joyce C. Whaley, of the home; son, James L. Whaley, Jr. (Laura) of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Alicia Taylor (Randy) of Lexington; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters; Lindia White of Marion, SC and Sarah Floyd (Frank) of Blythewood, and several loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a son, David Russell Whaley, and a brother-in-law, William David White. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 321 South Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072.
