Obituary of Mary Suzanne Benson

Mary Suzanne Benson, born February 15, 1951, in Columbia, SC passed away due to a sudden illness on April 29, 2024.  She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina in elementary education and played handbells and sang with Arpad Darazs and the Musicaires.  She often said I love you God and calm me down.  One of her favorite things was to have a coke.  She had a wonderful personality and brightened up any room she came into.  Her loss will leave a deep void in our hearts. 

She was the daughter of the late Roy and Mary Benson.  She is survived by a son, Jamie; daughter, Mary Lauren; grandson, Charles James; sisters, Betsy Lorraine Hancock and Virginia Benson; and Jim Poovey, who cared for her for many years. 

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, May 7, 2024, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home, Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd. Columbia, SC 29209.
