Obituary of Sidney Hugh Ward

Sidney Hugh “Big Sid” Ward, 86, of West Columbia, passed away on Sunday, April 28th. He was born on November 19th, 1937 to the late David Hugh and Floride Player Ward.

Mr. Ward attended Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, where he served on the cemetery committee, was a member of the Cayce Masonic Lodge since 1963, and the Jamil Shrine Temple. Mr. Ward also proudly served in the South Carolina National Guard. Mr. Ward was employed by Church Building Systems, early in his career, building eight (8) churches in South Carolina and Georgia. He then began Midland Home Improvement as sole owner and operator for over fifty (50) years.

He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-eight (68) years, Jilda Hobbs Ward; his son, Reginal (Karen) Ward; daughter, Carol Glance; grandchildren, Cherie Ward (Brent) Schooley, Jody (Arlette) Glance and Peri Ward; and great-granddaughter, Arwynn Glance; nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors one (1) hour prior to the service on Thursday, May 2, 2024, 11:00 am at Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington. Burial will immediately follow the service at the Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery on Delree Street, West Columbia. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Tabor Cemetery Fund or to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Greenville, SC.

Pallbearers will be Jody Glance, Brent Schooley, Ernie Arehart, Billy Boone, BJ Boone, and Dwight Gable.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lexington Medical Center and Lexington Hematology/Oncology for their love and care during the past few months.
