Obituary of Winston Roosevelt Miles, Sr.

Winston Roosevelt Miles, Sr., 80, of Gaston, passed away April 21st, 2024 at Lexington Medical Center after a brief illness.

He was born in Lykesland, SC October 4th, 1943, to the late Jesse M. Miles and the late Cline Coogler Miles. He served in the US Army beginning in 1965. After discharge from the Army, he spent his lifetime working as a trim carpenter. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time fishing Santee and the Congaree River. He passed his love for fishing onto both his son and daughter. He was President of the Riverbend Fish Club where he was one of the original founding members.

He is survived by his children, Lenora (Whitaker) Miles (Harold) and Winston R. Miles, Jr. (Barbie); sisters, Annie Coward, Janie Sharpe (Jack) and Sandra Tucker; grandchildren, Candace Clarkson (Lucas), Taylor Whitaker (Michael and Maryn), Amber Crolley(Justin), Madason Whitaker (Kam), Gracyn Whitaker (Austin), Sara Whitaker, Brantley Miles (Lexi); four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and girlfriend, Shelly Wright.

He was predeceased by siblings, Ruby Hornsby, Manuel Miles, and Paul Miles.

A celebration of life will be held on May 4th, 2024, at 2 pm at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel of Lexington. The visitation will be from 1-2 pm preceding the service.
