Obituary of Lan Dinh Nguyen

Lan Dinh Nguyen, 96, of Columbia, S.C. passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024. He was born May 23, 1927 in Hà Nội, Việt Nam to Ninh Nguyen and Tỵ Thị Bùi.

He arrived in America as a war refugee in June 1975 and became a proud US citizen in November 1984. He served in the army of the Republic of Vietnam from 1954 - 1975 retired in the rank of Colonel. He worked many years in Columbia supporting many Vietnamese to settle in S.C. He also helped many Vietnamese to develop new skills and to obtain their certifications and licenses for their vocation.

He is survived by four of his six children: Minh Nguyen (Tocan), Kimthu Nguyen (Tinh, predeceased), Thang Nguyen (Liên, predeceased), and Van Nguyen (Michelle).

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lung Thi Nguyen, two sons, Tue Nguyen (Ai Thu) and Vu Nguyen (Melisa), a grandson, Thomas Nguyen, two sisters, Ngan Thi Nguyen and Be Thi Nguyen, his brother, Duyen Nguyen.

He was a loving grandfather to ten grandsons, four granddaughters, and great grandfather to seventeen great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, S.C.
