Obituary of William H. Creech
William H. Creech, Jr. passed away on January 26, 2024. He was born on November 14, 1927, in Barnwell, SC to the late William H. Creech, Sr. and Leona Ayer Creech, both of Barnwell.
Mr. Creech graduated from Barnwell High School in 1944 and went to work at the Charleston Port of Embarkation during WWII. He served in the US Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1948, sending troops and supplies to the troops in Europe and bringing the wounded back to the United States.
Mr. Creech went to work at the South Carolina Department of Mental Health (SCDMH) in 1949, where he met his future wife, Margaret Odom Creech.
In April 1952, Mr. Creech was drafted and after basic training went to work at the Pentagon serving on General McAuliffe's staff. After serving two years in the Army, he returned to his position at SCDMH. He retired from his job in 1989.
Mr. Creech was a member of Elmore Lodge #288 and the American Legion Post 6. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church for over 50 years. Mr. Creech was predeceased by his wife. Survivors include his son, William H. Creech Ill of Mount Pleasant, SC. Two daughters, Rebecca Creech Olive (Gray) of Forest Aces and Jennifer Creech Miller (John) of Lexington, SC. Three grandsons, Graydon V. Olive IV, of Mount Pleasant, SC; Ryan William Olive of Columbia, SC; John Loy Miller of Lexington. One granddaughter, Lauren Kristina Miller of Lexington.
A visitation will be held Wednesday from 1:00 to 2:00pm at Thompson Funeral Home. The service will begin at 2:00pm with Pastor Steve Allen and Pastor David Ford presiding. Burial will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to all the staff at Daybreak Services for their love, compassion, and care for the last six months. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the American Cancer Society or Billy Graham ministries.
