Obituary of Walter Palmer Davis, Jr.

Walter Palmer Davis, Jr., 74, of Lexington, South Carolina, bid his final farewell on December 19, 2023. Born on February 26, 1949, in Greenville, South Carolina, Walter, or as his friends called him, Walt, embarked on his eternal adventure.

Walt was a true social butterfly, fluttering from one conversation to another with ease. His friendly and comedic nature made him the life of any gathering. Whether it was cracking jokes or discussing the mysteries of the universe, Walt had a way of making everyone he met feel at ease.

Survived by his loving spouse, Brenda Gay Davis, and his daughters: Emma Blackmon (Keith) of Montgomery, AL, Melinda Blackmon (Christopher) of Atlanta, GA, Brittany Bailey of Lexington, SC, and Helena Britton (Mike) of Plantersville, AL, Walt was the heart and soul of his family. He now joins his father, Walter Palmer Davis Sr., his mother, Martha L. Davis, and his siblings: Alvin F Davis, Leroy Davis, Clyde Davis, Louise Davis, Martha Ann Bryson, and Evelyn Leachman (Ted), in eternal peace.

Walt's educational journey took him through Greer High School and the University of South Carolina, where he expanded his horizons, embraced knowledge, and earned his bachelor's degree.

Answering the call to serve his country, Walt served in the Air Force for 4 and a half years, after which he was honorably discharged. After his military service, he embarked on a 39-year career as an Expeditor with the United States Postal Service, ensuring the delivery of innumerable packages to countless doorsteps.

When Walt wasn't busy spreading joy and laughter, he indulged in his favorite hobbies. Fishing, camping, shooting, cruising, studying history, boating, and playing the guitar, banjo, and the ukelele were his passions, allowing him to navigate through life's adventures with a smile.

Friends and family are invited to a joyous gathering on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Fellowship Baptist Church at 4238 Augusta Road in Lexington, South Carolina, starting at 12pm for visitation. A celebration of Walt's life will follow at 2pm on the same day. On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, Walt will embark on his final voyage, with a burial at 10am at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
