Obituary of John R. Brantley III

John Randolph Brantley, III (Chip), 76, of Lexington, SC has passed away at home, Thursday, December 14 after a short-lived battle with cancer.

Chip was born in Bethesda, Maryland, to John Randolph Brantley, Jr. and Daphne Basemore Brantley, for whom he had the greatest of love and respect. 

He served his country in the US Navy, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Chip owned and operated Southland Rental and Supply Company in Fayetteville, NC until his retirement. 

Chip was blessed with many cherished friendships across his entire life. This was especially true around “The Dance”. He was inducted into the National Shaggers Hall of Fame in 2016. Chip loved to fish and enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Ocean Isle Beach. 

Chip was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lewis Rhodes Brantley; a son, John Randolf Brantley, IV; step children, Holly Rhodes Sharpe (Todd), Brian Rhodes; granddaughter, Hanna Sharpe; sister, Joy Crane (Sid); sister-in-law, Cindy Edge (Rodney); nephew, Jason Crane (Ashley); nieces, Leisha Crane Smith (Kevin) and Emily Crane; and his great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date. Memorials may be made to Prisma Health Hospice who provided the utmost care.
