Obituary of Mary Grace McPherson

Mary Grace Violet McPherson was born in Russellville, Kentucky, November 13, 1932, to Samuel and Elizabeth Violet. She spent the majority of her early life there until she moved with her husband, Dennis Eugene McPherson, to West Columbia, SC in 1967. She remained in the same home until the last several months when she moved in with her daughter. She had a gift for numbers and after completing accounting courses, worked at Midlands Technical College Airport Campus in the Grants department until her retirement at age 67. She cared for a grandchild and great grandchildren part time in her retirement. In fact, her hobby seemed to have been family. If asked if she might be able to do this or that, her answer would be – “Let me check my calendar”. For many years, she served as church treasurer, not accepting payment for her services. She found great pleasure in checking on friends and taking them, when possible, to appointments so they could have lunch later! She volunteered many hours with Lexington Interfaith Community Services.

She was predeceased by her parents, six siblings and her husband of almost 71 years. Her memory is cherished by her children, Charles David (Maureen) of Prosperity, SC; Clyde Evan (Kim) of Chapin, SC; Mary Gene (Charlie Davis) of West Columbia, SC. She was Granny/Mema to 7 grandchildren: Christopher, Sean and Amber McPherson, Nicole and Lucas Merchant, Carson McPherson, and Dr. Jeremy J. Davis; and five great grandchildren: Makensey and Kate McPherson, Camille and Connor McPherson, and Addison Merchant.

Her Celebration of Life Service will be held Sabbath afternoon, December 9, 2023 at 2PM at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, SC. Interment/burial will  be at Southland Memorial Gardens, West Columbia, SC at a later date.
