Obituary of Wade Hooper

CSM (Ret.) Wade Hooper of Columbia, South Carolina passed away on November 26th, 2023. He was 90 years old.

CSM Hooper was born in Cleveland, Georgia, to late parents Ira and Myrtle Hooper. He joined the US Army in November 1952 and retired on November 1979. He earned three Bronze Stars, Medal National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Korean Service Medals. He flew 135 missions behind enemy lines. He was proud to serve his country. He retired as Commandant of the Drill Sergeant School. He loved his family, fishing, woodworking, and Tennessee.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Bobby Hooper, and daughter, Beverly Augusta Hooper. He is survived by daughters, Barbara (Alan) Senn and Belinda (Rob) Byers; sons, David (Sheila) Hooper and Brian (Donna) Hooper; four grandchildren, Olivia, Sierra, Wade William, and Lizzie; and great-grandson, Hudson.

He was a great man and even better soldier. He will be deeply missed.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 4th, 2023 at 11am at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. A visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will take place at 1pm at Fort Jackson National Cemetery 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229
