Willene Shumpert

Obituary of Willene Barbara Ann Shumpert

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Willene Barbara Ann Shumpert on Monday, November 13, 2023 while surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late John Asmond Wise and Hattie Cleo (Spires).

Willene is survived by her three children, Sherry Kay Geddings, Ricky Allen Shumpert, and Neita Fay Whetstone; granddaughters, Lauren BreAnna (Rob) Garman, Shayla Danielle (Jonathan) Sessoms; grandson, William Wesley (Danielle) Whetstone; great granddaughters, Kaylin Aubree, Kylie June Sessoms, Anastin Reese Garman; and one brother, HP Wise.

She was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, Richard Stanley, and many brothers and sisters.

Affectionately known by her great granddaughters as “Meme”, Willene was a very loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She always knew how to warm the bellies and hearts of all she knew, from her cooking to her hugs.  Meme always made it better. Before the passing of her husband, she was an avid fisher and hunter. In her spare time, she loved to cook, visit with her “babies”, gardening, go on road trips, and play puzzles and crosswords.

Visitation is Friday, November 17, 2023 at 1:00 at Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington.

Funeral service will take place at 2:00 at Thompson’s, with burial to follow at Southland Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Shumpert, Wesley Whetstone, Jonathan Sessoms, Rob Garman, Michael Hoover, and Mickey Smithart.
