Joyce was a loving wife and mother who always put her family first, she never screened a call, always checked for messages and her mailbox. No one was a stranger to Joyce and when you went to see her, the first thing she did after saying hello, was run to the kitchen to see what she could offer you to eat and drink.

Joyce was a homemaker until all of her children were in school, where she then went to work in the cafeteria at Sedgefield Middle School in Charlotte, North Carolina.  After moving to Columbia, South Carolina in 1979, she was employed at Dinner Bell Meat Packing (1980 - 1992) and retired from Anchor Continental in 1996.
