Obituary of Charles Lee White

Columbia, SC – Charles Lee White, a beloved father and grandfather, passed away on October 24, 2023 at the age of 76. He was born on December 27, 1946 in Greenville, SC and was the beloved son of Joseph Warren White, Jr. and Corelli White and the brother of Beth White, all of whom preceded him in death. Charlie was a man of remarkable character and dedication and a diehard SC Gamecocks fan. He leaves behind a legacy filled with love for his family, sports, and service to his country.

 

Charlie was a proud member of the 1965 American Legion Richland Post 6 State Championship baseball team. He graduated from A.C. Flora High School in Columbia, SC and continued his education at the University of South Carolina, where he not only pursued his studies, but also played baseball with great passion.

 

His unwavering support for the South Carolina Gamecocks was well-known and his enthusiasm for the team brought joy to many. Charlie was not only a dedicated sports fan, but also a Vietnam Veteran, having served in the US Navy. His service to his country was a testament to his selflessness and courage.

 

Charlie is survived by his loving daughter, Stephanie White; his son, Todd White and his wife, Genevieve; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Caleb and Kaitlyn. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph White, and his wife, Sydney; nephews, Eric White and his wife Kim, Lew Weinberg and his wife Brittany, David Sawyer and his wife Jennifer, and Jason Sawyer and their families.

 

Charlie’s family will host a visitation on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 11am - 1pm. The visitation will be at Thompson Funeral Home located at 845 Leesburg Rd. Columbia, SC 29209.
