Obituary of Kathy Tyler Owens
Kathy Tyler Owens, 66, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2023 in Columbia, SC.
She was the beloved wife of the late Ray Owens.
Kathy was born in Orlando, FL to Allean and H.E. Tyler, Jr., on June 7, 1957. She was raised in North Augusta, SC and graduated from North Augusta High School. After graduation, Kathy pursued a degree in nursing at the University of South Carolina. Kathy earned her B.S., Masters, and her Nurse Practitioner’s degrees. She used these skills to help others in the Columbia area and retired as a Nurse Practitioner for the Dorn VA Center in Columbia.
Her love for her Carolina and football, lead her to become a Gamecock Club member for over 30 years. During this time she met and married the love of her life, Ray Owens. Together they became lifelong fans of the Carolina Gamecocks. Carolina football games are where they had great times and made many memories. Kathy also shared the love of the Atlanta Braves that her father loved.
Kathy had a quiet faith, a caring and considerate nature, and a loyal love for her family. She was a compassionate daughter, a loving wife, and an adoring aunt and great aunt to her nieces and nephews.
She was delighted to be a grandmother and great grandmother to her husband’s grandchildren.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Allean Tyler Amburn and Bud Amburn; brothers, Larry Tyler(Kathy) and Mike Tyler(Nelle); sister, Angie Smalley; niece, Abby Tyler; nephews, Jeff(Julie), Nathan(Amber) and Jacob(Jorden)Tyler, and Curtis; great nieces, Ryleigh and Emmy Tyler; great nephews, Will and Corbin Tyler; along with Ray’s grandchildren, Nicole Ellisor, Shannon Baldwin, Michael Owens, Jr., Matthew Berry, Mary-Catherine Owens, Bishop Owens, Samantha Sheffield and Taylor Hook.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Owens; her father, H.E. Tyler, Jr.; her brother, David Tyler; her sister, Pam Tyler; and her nephew, Clifton Tyler.
Funeral will be Monday, October 16 at 10:30 am at Thompson Funeral Home. Visitation at 10 am. Interment to follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
