Mary Butler

Obituary of Mary Butler

The beloved Mary Butler was born on June 27, 1932, in Stewart County, Tennessee, to the late Thomas and Gerdie McGovern. Mary went to be with the Lord on October 5, 2023.

Married to the late Sgt. John A. Butler of 63 years.

Mary leaves behind her daughters, Deborah K. Covington (Paul Covington) and Paula L. Hunt (the late David Hunt); grandchildren, Carrie Drewery (Johnnie Drewery), Angela Herd (Ron Herd), Mac McDonald (Trish McDonald), David Michael Cobb, Jr.; eight great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

Mary valued her close friendship of many years with Anne Cobb and Linda Cornell. They bonded together through their late Veteran husbands who retired from the United States Armed Forces. They enjoyed many years of fellowshipping at various restaurants and were especially well known at the Lizard Thicket on Two Notch Road near I 20 in Columbia.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Wendy Dennis, who helped to care for Mary during her last months on earth with us. Wendy and Mom enjoyed spending time together. Wendy was a special blessing to our family.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt gratitude to all her attending physicians and to those attending Mary at Prisma Health Richland Hospital.

Mary will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

1st Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written, what no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.”
