Obituary of Martha Rhea Bolton

Gaston, South Carolina – On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, Martha Rhea Loyd Bolton, loving widow of George Alvin Bolton and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 91. Martha was born on November 24, 1931 in Livia, Kentucky, the fifth child to Loddie Forrest Loyd and Floretta Pittman Loyd.

Martha married her childhood sweetheart, George Bolton, on December 24, 1948 in Owensboro, Kentucky. Shortly after that, they moved to Charleston, SC and built a life they loved and a family they were so proud of. Martha didn’t work outside the home after having children. She believed that being a loving wife and mother was her highest calling. She was the epitome of a gracious southern lady, managing her household and family with love and grace. Martha and George were members of Fish Hatchery Road Church of God in Gaston, SC and were happily married for 58 years until his passing in 2007.

Martha is survived by her children Marjorie (Yancey) Brazell, Sharon Turner-Baldwin, Randy Bolton and Tammy (Larry) Roberson. 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, both of Owensboro, Kentucky. She was predeceased by her husband, son-in-law Bill Baldwin, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

Her friends and family can attest to her giving nature and her great love for her Lord, her church and her family.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Fish Hatchery Road Church of God with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
