The world instantly seems sadder, gray and so much more boring. My heart hurts and my brain can’t seem to process this news. I never imagined I would never see our dear Brett again.
We became instant best friends when he started working with me at the New York Road Runners/NYC Marathon. We were in our 20s, usually with a cocktail, but always laughing and plotting. They used to call us The Howells.
His beloved bicycle went missing one day from our offices. I accompanied him around the entire Upper East Side as he posted “Missing” posters and showed random strangers pictures of his bike. He was convinced one of our co-workers stole it. I called him Pee Wee Herman for a long time after that.
He was an incredible tennis player and instructor. He was a foodie, always sharing pics of his world-class meals. He was so funny, always cracking everyone up; even strangers would fall in love with him. He had the best smile and laugh. He was larger than life. He will be incredibly missed.
On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.
RIP Brett. To know you was to love you. I will always love you, my friend.

Brett and I loved travel, adventure, fun and pictures of us together. I will treasure my many adventures with Brett over the years. We shared a bond that I will carry with me. I love Brett like a super close brother and he will travel with me in my heart. Where ever we didn’t get to go he will go with me. So happy we all got together in Puerto Vallarta to celebrate your 55th birthday at the costume party. I’ll love you forever and miss you always. Fly with the angels sweet friend. ♥️

My heart aches for all the family who loved Brett so much. When he lost his mother, I was impressed to observe firsthand how much he loved his dear Aunt Kathy.
I pray that God would minister to all who loved Brett, giving extra measures of God’s love & truth to each of you. Surely you were important to him & made a difference in his life. I’m praying that God would comfort & bless you now & in the days ahead.
In Jesus’ Love, Kathy Folks

So saddened to learn of Brett’s passing. He was such a good soul. Very down to earth. Very easy going. I’m grateful for the times we got to hang out in Columbia and Atlanta. Gone way too soon. He made everything around him better. Mark Hammond, Atlanta

I am so very sorry to learn of Brett's passing. He has been a wonderful friend, sharing his love of tennis and wine; in exchange, I introduced him to Mets baseball, which he really enjoyed. The world is a lot less fun without him. -- Stuart Elliott, New York.
