Maria Hanley

Obituary of Maria Elisabeth Hanley

Maria “Ria” Elisabeth Hanley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, went to be with our Lord on December 30th, 2022.

She was born January 31, 1934 in Frankfurt, Germany am Main. Ria was known for her love of family, always ready to help out if there was a need. She was an immaculate dresser and homemaker with a love for fashion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, mother Sophie Hoppner Anfang, father Mason Heimrich Anfang, her three sisters Annie, Grady, and Liesel, and her beloved husband Gerald “Jerry” Hanley.

Ria was a homemaker before she worked in childcare when her husband was stationed in Paris. When her husband, Jerry, was stationed in the United States, she helped with his newspaper business here in Columbia after he retired from the service. After leaving that job, she worked for Anchor Continental for over 20 years, until she retired. After retirement, she continued helping her children with her grandchildren, taking the grandchildren to appointments and on trips. She loved gathering with friends for coffee every few weeks and having a few laughs. Ria’s specialty was baking Christmas cookies, cakes, and holiday dinners. Her children will miss all those special treats and times.

Maria is survived by daughter, Debra (Stacy) Hanley Bodie; son Mike (Connee) Hanley; grandsons Corey (Chexbres) Hanley and Ryan Bodie; and also great granddaughters, Maddie Hanley, Aria Hanley, Alexandria Bodie, Octavia Bodie, and Delilah Bodie.
