Vernon Bristow

Obituary of Vernon Neil Bristow

Vernon Neil Bristow, 88, of West Columbia, passed peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 19, 2022. Vernon was born in West Columbia on August 29, 1934, to Keith Dargan and Otelia Hook Bristow. Vernon was a lifelong member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church.

Vernon honorably served his country in the United States Navy as a quartermaster sailor from 1951  to 1955. Vernon retired from commercial printing in 1998, after forty-two years of dedicated service. Retirement allowed him to spend hours in the garden he loved. Hunting, fishing, and volunteering for his church filled the remainder of his days. Vernon's passing leaves a huge void in many lives. His witty sense of humor was one of his greatest gifts. Those who knew him well are going to miss that mischievous twinkle in his eye.

Vernon is survived by his dedicated wife of 67 years, Angelyn G. Bristow; son, Ray Bristow; a daughter, Pamela Bristow Quick (Kelly); and a special friend, Bryan Linwood Champion, whom he loved like a son. Predeceased family members include his siblings, Edward (Bud), Keith, Robert Earl, and Mary Bristow Lown. Vernon leaves behind an extended family of loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery in West Columbia, with the Rev. Cynthia Taylor officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectively suggests donations be made to the Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 3050 Leaphart Road, West Columbia, SC 29169, or a cause of one’s choice.

Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of the arrangements.
