Obituary of Ernestine Farrar

Ernestine “Teena” Farrar, 97, formally of Columbia, SC, passed away on September 11, 2022 in Yorktown, VA.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m., Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Thompson Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Morris, son-in-law, officiating.   Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Thompson Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1:30 before the service.

Teena was born in Charleston, TN to Ernest E. Miller and Florence Haney Miller on September 10, 1925.  She graduated from McKenzie School of Business in 1944 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Carson Newman in 1951.  She married Walter Glenn Farrar, Jr., September 24, 1955, at Woodmont Baptist Church in Nashville, TN. She was the educational secretary at Woodmont Baptist Church where she met her husband-to-be. After that, she worked as secretary/treasurer for Walt Farrar & Associates. She was the “office volunteer” for many years at Park Street Baptist Church. Her love was to be at Park Street where she taught Sunday School and was the Sunday School Director; directed the Women to Women Bible Studies, organized church visitation and checked on the homebound and sick.

Teena is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Glenn Farrar, Jr. (1996); her mother, Florence Haney Miller (1999); her father, Ernest Miller (1969); her sister, Bonnie Jo Winford (2019). 

Teena is survived by children: Walter Glenn Farrar, III and Ann Austin Farrar; Carole Susan Morris and Robert Eugene Morris; Brother-in-laws: David Farrar, and Don Farrar; Sister-in-law: Margaret Ham; Grandchildren: Tiffany Dorsey (Jordan), Adam Farrar (Amber), Kristie Kimmel (Bryce), Sarah Kelly (Dan), and Robert Morris; Great-Grandchildren: Alyxandria, Chase, Brendan, Ayden, Joshua, and Madison.

Memorials may be given to the International Mission Board, Richmond, VA. or Hospice.
