Obituary of Gary Lee Nichols

Gary Lee Nichols, 87, of Gaston, South Carolina passed away July 22, 2022.  He was born on April 1, 1935, in Lenoir City, TN, to Dewey and Willie Nichols.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by two children, Rhonda Meyer and Rusty Nichols; and a brother, Orville.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Carol Nichols; daughter, Debbie Horton; son, Mike Nichols (Laura); stepdaughter, Amanda Anderson; and stepson, Will Melton (Michelle); along with six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; his sister, Wanda Kinser; and his brother, Dewey (Brenda) Nichols.

Gary served in the Special Forces in the US Army having served in Korea and Vietnam.  During his military service, he served as a Drill Sergeant on Fort Jackson Military Base.  Gary enjoyed gardening and loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Rd., Lexington, SC.
