Murtice Walker

Obituary of Murtice June Walker

It is with deep sorrow that we announce that Murtice J. “Mamoo” Walker of Columbia, SC passed away unexpectedly - peacefully in her home on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the age of 88. One of her greatest joys and passions in life was always bringing her large blended family together to create special moments and share a great meal. She was the matriarch of her family, a strong role model, the glue that kept everyone close, and someone who was loved and cherished by all who knew her.

Murtice was adored by many people. She was predeceased by her parents, William J. Bragg and Lillian C. Bragg; son, Michael Keith Walker; her sisters, Elizabeth Bragg, Dorothy Massey, and Odessa Addair. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Harold B. Walker, Sr.; sisters, Maude Roberts, Rose Fletcher, Pat Bragg, and Marcia Bogan; brothers, Wallace Bragg, and William Bragg; sons, William Walker, Harold B. Walker, Jr., and Robert Walker; daughters, Cynthia Evans(Guy), and Sheryl Walker; grandchildren, Steven Grassmann-Walker(Anika), Benjamin Grassmann, James Stoudemire Jr(Kari), Guy Evans(Ashley), Joseph Stoudemire(Brittany), Keith Evans(Deborah), Logan Russ (Kaitlynn), Alysha Lambert(Shawn), and Victoria Walker; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Born in Woodruff, South Carolina, she moved with her family to Spartanburg, SC. She spent most of her early life helping out on her family's farm; she attended Cleveland Junior High School.  Murtice was a devoted christian for over 60 years. She was a member of Columbia Baptist Temple now converted to Foundation Baptist Church for 44 years. She also served as a sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. God was first in her life and she loved her church family.  She will be forever remembered, always loved, and will eternally hold a special place in the hearts of her family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 PM conducted by Pastor Dr. George Smiling and Pastor Dr. Ron LaFlam at Thompson Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road Columbia, SC 29209.
