A Memorial Service for Tommy J. Hiott, Jr, 88, of Columbia, will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Road Lexington, SC. The Rev. Bill Haselden will be officiating with Mr. Dan Peach delivering the eulogy. The family will greet friends following the service with light refreshments available.
Tommy Joseph Hiott, Jr., or "TJ" as he was known to many, was born in Walterboro, SC to the late Thomas J. and Bessie Bishop Hiott. He was the eighth of nine children. He was predeceased by his parents and all of his siblings. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn B. Hiott; his daughter, Celeste H. Springer (Bryan); and his two grandsons, Phoenix and Garrett Springer.
TJ served in the US Army as an MP for two years. Most of that time was spent in Germany. Upon returning home, he attended Newberry College and graduated in 1960. He then attained work at GM in the finance division, and worked there until retirement.
TJ was always a hard worker, and he owned and operated several enterprises. He took pride and joy in his piddling time where he would work in his garage, yard, and home. He enjoyed sports, especially football and basketball, and shag dancing. He was inducted into the Central SC Shaggers Wall of Fame in 2006.
TJ attended Riverland Hills Baptist Church until his illness prevented him from doing so. Early Monday morning, on May, 30th, 2022, he took his last breath and departed from this life.
“We love him, miss him, and we will never forget him.”
