Obituary of Phyllis Ann Randall

A Special Life Remembered

On March 18, 2022, Phyllis Ann Randall (née Kyte) passed away at her home in Hopkins, South Carolina. She was born on February 28, 1940, in Elizabethton, Tennessee, to her mother, Helen Stump, and father, Verlin Kyte.

Phyllis served in the military after graduating from high school, and it was in the military that she met her husband of 60 years, Robert Randall, Sr. After her military service, Phyllis worked as a stay-at-home wife and mother for her family. Phyllis was a highly active woman: she bowled on a league for many years, alongside her friends and family; she typically walked several miles daily around her neighborhood; and she led a water aerobics class that was joyously attended by many of her companions. Phyllis was also energetic and devoted in regard to mental exercise and creative pursuits, being an avid reader, a word puzzle enthusiast, a silvery singer, and a whimsical storyteller. Phyllis possessed a strong desire to help her community, as she volunteered much of her time to Meals on Wheels and local church outreach projects, such as clothing donations and meal preparation for those without such necessities. Phyllis was an immensely gracious, caring woman, always welcoming of any who came to visit with her—and it was essentially a guarantee that she would have a delicious meal prepared for anyone who came to her home. She was a skilled cook, a meticulous housekeeper, and a tireless soul—but most of all, she was a jovial woman who always made you feel welcomed with the affection and love she showed you.

Phyllis is survived by her two sisters, Barbara Shontere (Larry) and Janet Harada; her daughters, Tammy Randall Dawkins (Phil) and Rebecca Randall; her son, Tony Randall (Chenelle); and her five grandchildren: Ashley Lang, Jessica Sharp, Matthew Dawkins, Alexander Randall, and Haley Randall. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Edwin Gordon (Gordy); her brother, James (Jady); a son, Robert Randall, Jr. (Bobby); and her husband.

A Funeral Service will be held for Mrs. Randall at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd. Columbia, SC.
