Obituary of Luel P. Brown

Luel P. Brown, 73, of Columbia, SC went home at 2:49 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the Prisma Heart Hospital in Columbia, SC. She was born on February 27, 1948 in Columbia, SC to Mack and Veiola Patterson.

Luel is survived by her mother, Veiola Patterson; her brother, Archie Patterson (Sandra); her sister, Edna Chatman (Clarence); her son, Kevin Brown; her daughter, Yvette Brown; nieces and nephews, Lanita Patterson, Archie Patterson Jr., Clifford Chatman, and Charlene Chatman; grandson, Justin Brown; and great nieces and nephews, Kayla Chatman, Kris Chatman, Citeara Chatman, and Mariah Chatman. Her father, Mack Patterson, preceded her in death.

Luel was a long time resident of the Columbia area, graduating from Booker T. Washington High school in 1966 where she was a well known Majorette. Luel went on to have a long career with BellSouth working as an operational engineer. When she wasn’t working Luel loved spending time with her children and family. She also enjoyed traveling and sight seeing. Luel also loved to bowl, play tennis, watch westerns and Clint Eastwood movies and tv shows like Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and Golden Girls.

A visitation will be held from 12 pm to 1 pm, Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at the Thompson Funeral Home located at 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. The service will be held immediately after the visitation also at Thompson Funeral Home. Luel will be interned following the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
