Obituary of Ann Funderburk Wages

Ann Funderburk Wages, 77, died Monday, February 1, 2022. Born in Charlotte, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Funderburk and Grace Welsh Funderburk. Ann was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Columbia. She graduated from high school in Lancaster, SC, and held a B.A. in History from Winthrop College. Ann also graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Master’s in Public Administration. She retired after 30 years from the Department of Social Services in Columbia where she was the Director of Food Stamps and Quality Control. She then worked in the United States Department of Agriculture where she retired after 15 years.

Ann’s love of travel started when she and a college friend spent six weeks traveling around Europe and she continued traveling throughout her life. She was very close to her family and had a large group of close friends who were supportive throughout her illness.

Surviving is her brother, William Funderburk; and sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and David Cox. She was especially close to her nephew, Christopher Cox; and niece, Sarah Wagers (Jay). In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Michael Wages; and her sister, Linda Funderburk.

A memorial service for Ann will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 2827 Wheat St. Columbia, SC, where the family will receive guests starting at 12:00pm. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church.
