Obituary of Irene Marie "Omi" Burrows

Mrs. Irene Marie “Omi” Burrows, 87, wife of James M. Burrows Jr. peacefully passed at home, surrounded by family on Thursday, November 4, 2021. 

Mrs. Burrows was born September 5, 1934 in Frankfurt, Germany, the daughter of the late Karl and Betty Mang. Irene enjoyed traveling on the weekends in her youthful days. She met her loving husband in Frankfurt on one military assignment. Irene supported her husband and children through many military assignments between Europe, Vietnam War and many states and finally settling in Columbia, SC. Irene devoted her life to her family and her closest friends especially her adored grandchildren. Mrs. Burrows was preceded in death by her parents, her son James M. Burrows III, and two grandchildren. 

In addition to her husband of 65 years, she is survived by her sister, Jutta Grätsch of Frankfurt, Germany; loving daughter-in-law, Sonja Burrows; son, Richard H. Burrows (Crystal); three grandchildren: Daniela Cuddington (Stephen), Margaret-Ann Dennis (Grant), and Jacob Burrows; and three great-grandchildren. 

The family would like to thank her Comfort Care Hospice team for their care over the last few months. 

A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 8, 2021 at 3:30pm at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC.
