Obituary of Joseph Eugene Park

Joseph Eugene Park passed away peacefully on October 22, 2021, at age 89, surrounded by his greatest earthly treasure, his family. 

Born November 9, 1931 in Columbia, SC, he graduated from Dreher High School and had a life-long career in Safety Training and Management and Environmental Control with Tarmac Mid Atlantic.

Known for his “shenanigans” in the family, he made sure that laughter was a constant in every gathering or celebration. His lifelong witness to the goodness of His Savior was lived daily through selfless acts of kindness and unending empathy for all people that he encountered. He modeled the disciplines of prayer, charity and Bible study, and leaned on the strength of his faith to bring light to others and be the ultimate example of a life well lived.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert E. Lee & Lila Rae Park; and his siblings, Bobby Park and Beverly Crawford.

He is survived by his bride of 57 years, Barbara Jean Lee Park; his daughter, Stephanie Feith (Dave) of St. Augustine, FL; and his three sons: Joey Park (Jackie) of Myrtle Beach, Eric Park of Columbia, Steve Park (Martha) of Fort Mill. Joe enjoyed 31 years in the cherished role of ‘Papa’ to his five grandchildren: Lauren, Elliot, Rachel, Haley and Emily. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Strange; and many nephews and nieces. Joe also served as a “father” to many other children who needed one, fostering and mentoring over twelve boys and girls over the course of his lifetime.

A memorial service will be held at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC, on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 4:00pm.                        .
